Six Months: Sitting UpSusannah learned to sit alone this month, much to all of our delight. She also proved that she can take long trips with us in the car by being a very good girl on our trip to Wisconsin (8 hours there, 10 hours back).
I had high hopes that she was getting her first tooth when she got what I thought was a teething rash on her cheeks and ran a fever for a day, but if that was teething she wasn't actually successful. She still has no teeth, though she is hugely interested in eating food. I have resorted to feeding her small amounts of applesauce (breaking my no-food-before-teeth rule) to keep her out of my plate when she's sitting on my lap at dinnertime. She is very persistent when it comes to grabbing for food. |

So far she has tried applesauce, plain yogurt, bananas, celery sticks (which I won't give to her again for a while because she chewed off a piece and nearly choked herself) and bits of bread. Bananas tied up her insides for a few days, so she really isn't ready for much food.
Susannah has entered that challenging time of life when she would really like to move around but still can't, so the next best thing is to make a lot of noise until I carry her around. After nearly six months of being content in the bouncy chair, I'm having to readjust to this. Thankfully, she is also happy sitting and playing with some toys, so I do manage to make dinner without a lot of noisy complaints.
She has pretty much gone down to two naps a day now, though she will doze when nursing for a short time after dinner. She gets up around 7, but is a sleepy nurser until about 8:30. Then she takes a nap sometime around 11 and another sometime around 2 or 3. I try to get Abigail down for a nap at the same time in the afternoon so they are sleeping at the same time instead of alternating, but it can be tricky at times.
Her hair is coming in thicker and thicker but is still pin straight without a hint of curl. It's funny that it's the exact same COLOR as Abigail's, but the feel of it is completely different. She also has my skin coloring (sort of a blue undertone) instead of Ben's (more golden or brown undertone). These are subtle things, however, and in general I think Abigail and Susannah look a lot alike and will probably get called twins a lot when they are a little older.
