Beautiful Girl
As Susannah is slowly, slowly beginning to wake up (she still sleeps a good 16 hours per day), we continue to get a look at an exceptionally sweet person behind those bright little blue eyes. Our second daughter is definitely a gem of a baby, one of those kind who obligingly takes long naps, only fusses when hungry or tired (or if she has a gas pain) and who likes to stare adoringly at those she loves. If Abigail is my right-hand girl with all her bouncy energy, Susannah might very well be my heart.
Her personality is nothing like mine, by the way. I would've been Abigail, with her flying curls, curious nature, and quick temper. Susannah is like my sister, the one I could never understand why my parents had such an easier time with. I get it better these days. While not playing favorites, sometimes it's just easier to get along with some children more than others and Susannah would probably get along with a fencepost. We do get glimpses of her temper now and then and she can get pretty mad if I ignore her little protests long enough and she really, REALLY wants to get picked up. The first time she really let loose with an indignant yell, Ben was positive she was hurting...until he stood up and she immediately began cooing and looking around. But she is rarely mad and mostly is either sleeping, sitting peacefully on our laps, or bouncing herself in her bouncy chair. Those little legs can be a blur when she gets going! |

Susannah does have an adorable little voice and likes to stare up at us and "talk". She also has a habit of lighting up with a giant grin (complete with a little wriggle) if she catches our gaze. Abigail is beginning to pay more attention to her as "Baby" is getting to be more of a person and now talks to her and tries to trouble-shoot if Susannah starts fussing at all. Susannah is very agreeable to Abigail's attention and will quickly start laughing if Abigail bounces her in the bouncy chair or just leans over and talks to her. If Abigail laughs, Susannah often does too...which is pretty heart-meltingly cute from both of them.
Susannah is just now starting to get a little frustrated that she can't move and is beginning to reach for things, try to roll over, scooching out of her bouncy chair and holding her head up reliably. She can nearly sit alone, but I'm guessing it's going to be another month before she accomplishes that. She also has pretty respectable rolls on her legs and arms and her hair is growing in very fast. She actually lost very little of it, mostly just a ring around the outside of her head. It is coming in very thickly for such a little one and I think it might be straight and dark, which will make quite a contrast with her big sister. She has finally grown out of size 1 diapers and is wearing size 2, and she's also wearing 3 month clothes. I was starting to wonder if she was ever going to grow out of the newborn things, but I've packed them away in the basement now and even some of the smaller 3 month things are getting tight as her little legs stretch out.
Overall, Susannah continues to be a very easy addition to our family and brings us a lot of pleasure. I'm looking forward to the next few months as she begins to sit and crawl and be more active, though I definitely enjoy the time she gives us by sleeping so nicely. I remember I missed getting Abigail's formal 4 month pictures so I want to be particularly careful not to overlook this next month for little Susannah. Time goes by so quickly and these babies change by the day!
